Best quality deer hunt for mule deer
« on: October 13, 2016, 12:59:39 PM »
Hey guys, I know it's way early but I didn't draw any good tags this year but was curious about your opinions on the best quality buck tag for mule deer! I'll be going into next year with 11 points, so I would like to use them wisely! Any help would be great!

Thanks

What kind of hunting do you like to do.  Weapon? Still hunting, stand hunting or spot and stalk? Open country or Wilderness?

Dessert.
:yeah:, Strawberry short cake,  homemade pie, ice cream etc can all be found in the Dessert unit  :chuckle:

Everyone's got their favorite, and most won't publish it on the Internet.  You can get a pretty good idea of demand and quality from the draw statistics on the WDFW website.

http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/harvest/2015/reports/deer_hunt_name.php

You should know, with 11 points your odds are still really long for the high demand units.

Ever thought about hunting out of State?

I have 13 points going into next year so I am in a similar boat. There are a lot of "quality" units for mule deer. I think you just need to decide what type of hunting you are looking for as well as pick the one that gives you the best chance to spend the most time in the unit both pre and during the season. I also know that even with double digit points our odds are still low. Make sure to make other plans and if drawn, adjust accordingly.  :twocents:

Get on google earth and pick the type of terrain u like to hunt. Steep, flat, trees, sage, farm land etc. They are all good hunts. Some better than others on any given day
