New scope
« on: October 16, 2016, 08:20:39 AM »
Hello HW members. Well after a day of hunting in the rain my bushnell elite 4200 has failed me. Inner lens is foged up. So I need help finding a new scope asap. Price range is 5-600 and looking at something with about 16x if possible, the bushnell was 9x, and where I hunt the xtra magnification would help. Like the leupolds and vortex but don't know which one and no idea on which reticle. Any help would be appreciated.

That 4200 should have warranty coverage.
Shame it failed.
Good glass.

Thx for the warranty info, but when I looked on bushnells website they didn't list the elite 4200 under warranty. Saw the new 2016 warranty. But time isn't in the books need a new scope as I am heading out again on Wednesday.

Nikon would be a good option as well. :twocents:

I would rethink the 16x requirement. If you could live with 12x you would have more options. For 16x scopes, I think it would be difficult to find quality glass in your price range.

Sounds like you need to go to the store and see what they have in inventory.  Sounds like you need to buy one today and sight in today or tomorrow.

Leupold VX3 in 4.5 - 14x40 with cds might be an option. I like their windplex reticle.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Agree with Curly that you might need to plan on capping your magnification at 14x (or even 12x) at $500-600. I have a Zeiss HD5 3-15x by 44mm and its incredible. you may get lucky and snag one used toward the upper end of your price range if you can wait.

So 5-600 you guys wouldn't consider the vortex viper hs 4-16-44? Or the leupold vx3i 4.5-14-40. I went to cabelas to check them out along with leupold vx2. Vortex seemed a little brighter. But I didn't really like the thin reticle on both scopes as the bushnell I had was a little thicker more visible. Sad it failed I really liked the scope. Guess I have to borrow one of my dad's rifle, and if warranty covers the bushnell I'll send it in for repair.

I have a Nikon Monarch 5.5-16 with NikkoPlex reticle that's like new in box, with warranty card.
It's been mounted but you can barely tell.
Range use only, never in the field.
Let me know if you are interested.

The only advantage of a 30mm tube over a 1" tube is that there is more adjustment available. So, if you want to dial up out past 1,000 yards, you'd be better off with the 30mm.  There is no more light transmission with it over a 1" tube.  :twocents:

There ya' go.  That is what I would do if it were me.  I don't mind paint missing, because it's going to be missing paint the first time I get back from taking it out in the field anyway.

Thank you for pointing that out.
