Kettle Range Moose
« on: October 17, 2016, 02:44:51 PM »
I drew the Kettle Range any moose Permit this year and hunted the first 2 weeks in the 101 unit, mostly in the Sherman creek, Barnaby creek, White mtn, Onion ridge, and Davis lake. I saw lots of moose, but I could not get an opportunity on a mature bull, which I am determined to hold out for. My question is, will the moose still frequent these areas in late November? I plan on being there the 19th-26th. Any tips or November moose areas would be greatly appreciated. P.M.'s welcome!

Don't know the area but don't drag out by the horns after thanksgiving. A few will already be shed out.

I know all of those areas very well.  They should still be there but Davis lake is fairly high for Nov.  You might be in snow up there in a month

Geno,
Best of luck on your hunt.  Agree with Ben regarding the bulls losing their horns in late nov.  I shot my bull on nov 23 last year in the Douglas unit.    On that day, I passed on a big bull that was missing his left paddle.

Keep hunting hard and you should get a mature bull.

Look forward to your story and pics.

 P.m. sent.

My hunting partner has spent 21 days over there looking for a moose. Had a couple opportunities but it didn't work out. It's coming down to the wire and I hate to see him eat this oil tag. He is looking for any bull, not picky.  Anybody be willing to share some information through p.m. that I could pass along to him?

Don't overlook those older burns on the west side of the Kettle Range, check up O'Brien Creek, Lambert Creek, St Peters Creek, Aeneas Creek.
There is a lot of feed in those old burns and the moose are scattered throughout it.
