« on: October 19, 2016, 10:56:53 AM »
Drew the Blue Mountain Late Whitetail tag with my dad and our hunting partner. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

Thank You,

Do you have private land access at all?

Head to the local bar or Eagles club over there and start buying the locals drinks. It's worked for me in the past. You can usually get on a farm or two this way.

Always bring a WSU hat to wear when asking permission. It has also helped us get permission in the past.

No private access as of today planning on scouting the first week and actually hunting the 15th through the 19th.

Have a friend that says he should be able to get us some acces but I am pretty sure it is in sage brush country and I have heard if we want a big one we need to hunt closer to where the foothills meet the timber if we can find some access.

I will definitely hit the bar when we get over there with a Coug hat on.

Appreciate the help.
Thanks

Did you do any research before applying?  Why did you chose to apply for that tag?

We did a little and have a friend that lives in the Deyton area but doesn't hunt and is fairly new to the area...thought it would be a nice change of pace and we should have a good chance at getting a nice whitetail.

Thanks,

There is plenty of public land to hunt with plenty of whitetails to shoot.

Also, there is Feel Free to hunt private land in that area. And hunting by reservation land. The feel free to hunt land is posted with small signs and that is all the permission you need. Here's some info.

Blue tongue went thru that area all the way down into Oregon a year or so back.  I am sure the WT bounce back quickly though.
