Skagit HQ Help
« on: October 17, 2016, 09:48:00 AM »
I've hunted the Skagit for 15+ years, mostly out in the bay.  We decided to hunt the island this weekend because we figured the bay would be dangerous.  (FYI no water at any of the blinds yet)  I've hunted just about every blind on the island and I know the names of the popular blinds, but not all of them.  I would like to be able to explain to other hunting parties where I'm going in the morning and have a frame of reference as to where they are headed.   I figured since wdfw has posted a map of all the blinds, it wasn't a big secret anymore.  I have a picture of the map listing all the blinds by number, but no names.  Let me know if you are willing to help and I'll send you the map.

I've always just dropped a pin on Google maps and txts it to my buddies.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I would be interested in a copy.

If it were me, I would just send them the coordinates, you can do this from the Google Maps app and they can then just walk to it.  If you turn on the satellite overlay it makes it easier to find trails/roads and avoid ponds and marshes to some degree.

What names are they being called these days?  We just specify the location we are heading to.

All the blinds have names. I've heard reference to "seattle hole", "buck hole", "poplar", "pole hole". I know most of the names and I've hunted most of the blinds. Just looking for someone who can connect the dots. Willing to offer a 6 pack if 21+ or dinner at the Conway pub.

Call Belinda Rotton.  She's the unit manager and has always been very helpful when I've talked to her.  I'm sure she can give you the names.

Go to the next WWA meeting and you can get at least a half dozen names for each blind.

I think the names change with each generation.  Seattle pond has been around for a long time.
A few names are Oie Thompson, Barn, Sand, Firemans, Crescent, Broadlin, Lorenzen, Poleyard, Field 1, Field 2, Dog Leg.
For the most part most people reference the blind numbers.  Ex. Blind 1, Blind 17, etc.
