Snakes getting Better?
« on: October 28, 2016, 10:57:34 AM »
Hello, I'm just curious, are people encountering less rattlers in the Basin than a few weeks ago on the opener? I ask because I'm working my young English setter pup on wild birds and I'm a little nervous about snakes. Ive got him on a 20ft checkcord and I'm working him info coveys of quail, just so he can see/scent/hear the birds (no shotgun). Last weekend I hit the lower Crab Creek area, parts of Gloyd Seeps, Lake Lenore area, and the Whiskey Dick release site area. I did not see any snakes, and I sometimes do in the lower Crab Creek area this early in the season.

Thanks,
Cliff

Unless it warms up a tad here (and stops raining) I don't think snakes will be an issue for the rest of the year.

Snakes are all gone in my travels.  To cold
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

Stay out of rock piles, I have ran into rattlers in late November when the sun is out in the rocks, when it was below freezing.
Its all about the bone baby!
