Non slip crate pad

I use one of those black steel grate crates when transporting pup around in the back of the 4 Runner or truck.  He sleeps in a larger version of the same thing in the house at night.  My issue has been the bottom of these crates are a black plastic tray that can be pulled out and are slippery as all get out.  I've put different types of pads / cushions in there but we are still working through the chewing stage (10 months old) so I'm tired of finding corners chewed off of stuff.

Is there something you gents use to make it less slippery that a pup can't chew?  He does fine in the crate in the house but driving around in the car if he sits up he just slides around.  I was thinking just some rubber mat material and glue it down some how or a buy some of the do it yourself bed liner paint.  Figured I try to learn what I could from others trial and errors.

You could try a horse stall mat cut to size. Heavy and doesn't bend easily.

We alwas used carpet remnant that way if it got wrecked I just tossed it and put in a new one.  I found remnants for free.  Its warmer and reduces the slippage.  Most the dog people I know do this or use crate pads which vary from cheap to spendy.

If you google 'chew proof dog mat' you'll find a few IMO expensive options.

I just go to Costco and get the foam pads that are meant for the kitchen floor. like $10-13. A few more months and the chewing should stop anyhow..

Stall mats are most chew proof. At that age I don't put anything in with them unless I want them chewing on it. Slipping is no worry. Carpet and a dog who chews is a big no no. Carpet will pull apart in Long strands. If swallowed it can cause blockages. I'd leave it as as. Thousands of dogs are fine on it every day.

Thank you for the input and knowledge gents.  I am hoping the stage ends soon.  It's been awhile (13 years) since the last pup and he was a guide for the blinds pup we raised.  Definitely a different breed with a hunting line.

I would have to agree with happy. I would be really careful with carpet, blankets etc. Lots of pups get bored in crates which results in chewing. We use pine/cedar shavings and 3/4 stall mats in our crates and on the truck. I have not had an issue with them chewing the mats.
