Weekend Bolete harvest
« on: October 24, 2016, 11:23:06 AM »
Our area hadn't produced a decent supply since 2013 when it was wet in late August/ early September. We got plenty of rain lately, but I thought it might be too cold to produce by the time we were able to get over to the cabin. I was wrong. Picked a couple hours with the wife and daughter. These all get dried (laid out in the sun if available, then finished on dehydrator setting in the oven) We grind them in the spice grinder as needed, and coat steaks, chops, roasts. The aroma of these things is funky and absolutely intoxicating. It's amazing how many shrooms it takes to make a pan full of the final product.

Nice work.  I have done the drying/grinding with Birch Boletes in the past.  It gives everything a very pleasant flavor.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

It's a lot of work, but sure is fun to get the family involved.
