Road hunting does not mean shooting from a vehicle. I, personally, find hunting from a high horse pathetic as well.

Is trolling from a high horse pathetic as well ?  :chuckle:  I do like to troll at times but not sure if using a high horse is acceptable.

As long as they don't block roads and let others by I have no issues with road hunting.  :twocents:

I believe a high horse is actually required, the short ones drown....

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity...

Sarcasm makes smart people laugh and stupid people mad.

I've killed some animals from a road, and some 5+ hiking miles in. They are all special to me.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

For blacktail I road hunt.  Cover way more ground and see a lot of animals.  Better chance of seeing a good one when you have a lot to look over. Any way you choose to hunt is fine by me but just be safe and ethical and legal.  I was taught to road hunt cause that's the way the unit should be hunted. All roads and hiking would just put you staring at all the trucks and roads driving around. You'd just be hiking to a road that a truck is mist likley driving on.

I hunted hard today up behind a gate. Was actually planning on road hunting but I really like the area behind the gate and no one was there before light this morning so I took the spot. Hunted until 1pm, saw 4 doe 3 fawns. Probably hiked 6-7miles total and beat the hell out of a few clear cuts. Jumped in my truck drove down the road 2 miles and killed a spike 50 yards off the road drug him out whole. Unbelievable

It makes sense really. Roads are generally located on the most habitable areas. More food etc

This is a funny topic because this year was my first year hunting anything and we did the whole camp/drive to a trailhead/get out and hike 3-5 mile and look for deer thing. Seeing as I'm new to hunting, I thought that's what hunting was. I really had no idea road hunting was that popular and apparently effective. I'm planning on taking my girlfriend out for the late season hunt and will probably hike in again. My buddy and I are also planning a backcountry trip for next year. I'm young and very fit and love being in the woods so road hunting doesn't seem like much fun to me. It just doesn't really seem to involved. However, after being in the woods for a couple days and not seeing much, I'd be lying if I said I didn't try looking through my binoculars trying to find deer while we drove back to the camp. I'd also be lying if I said I wouldn't have shot a deer if I saw one. Personally I'd rather be in the woods doing my thing but to each his own...stay safe and legal

That's it. Hunt the animals in there habitat and that happens to be a tree farm.  Some very nice deer killed off the roads.

Sit on a rock six miles from the road and wait for a deer to walk by you.  Or sit in a truck and drive while a deer sits on a rock and waits for you to drive by.  Not sure where the difference lays.  Personally I could care less who sits on the rock and long as the hunter plays by the rules and enjoys him or herself.

He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
