Dodge transmission

So I have a 2007 cummins 5.9 with auto transport. I just had it rebuilt and upgraded as well. It has less than 20k on the rebuild and 2nd is basically gone and I can hardly take off in first without it slipping bad. The transmission fluid smells burnt bad! Do any of you guys have dodge auto transmissions that have been rebuilt that you have been happy with and if so who did you go to?

Jeez, who did it?  Did they do install and such or just rebuild it?  Sometimes coolers can have crap in them.  Did you have a trans temp gauge?  They can overheat and you wouldn't even know it until it was HOT!  Also if it was just a stock rebuild they are not all that great.

I won't name the shop at this point. They did install and rebuild. I paid for a heavy duty built trans, it has a triple disc billet torque converter, HD clutch packs and valve body. I do have a temp gauge but in never got over heated. It shifted kinda funny from the get go but just started slipping really bad.

uggg they going to blame you, say you over heated it or did something to void a warranty especially since you got 20k on it.

I went through source automotive in clackamas.. good guys.  I'd recommend getting a after market or larger tranny cooler when you do it. Just me 2 cents

I also have a aftermarket trans cooler. I haven't towed at all with it either since the rebuild witch makes even less  sense.

I would ask if they flushed coolers.  Also I would take it back and demand a failure diagnoses.  They should have a 3yr or 36k mile warranty of some sort?  This is on them, unless of course your running twin turbos and injectors and such making 750+hp?

Definitely going to take it back in. As far as upgrades are concerned all I have is exhaust and a intake. The shop I took it to has a "lifetime warranty" if I keep up my end of the deal and get all maintenance done on scheduled time witch I have!

First thing I thought about was flushing the cooler, but he mentioned an aftermarket cooler. Not sure if that's before or after the trans O/H

Auto transmissions suck. They are a 5k wear item. My 6 speed sticks in my 2 dodges are still rocking strong. I put a clutch in one at about 230k and haven't had any slipping yet on my other that is at 215k...  you can smoke a lot of clutches for the price of 1 juice box!

Had my 2002 Dodge Ram Cummins loose a trans at about 150k mi a year ago and had Rob's Transmission http://www.robstransmission.com/ in Issaquah do the rebuild on it. We've got about 10k of hauling a gooseneck horse trailer on it and no problems. Good, solid shifts, no hesitation and better use of torque curve with the Cummins.
I recently had my 1998 Ram 47RE rebuilt by the same shop and it's been the same quality work. Rob is the owner and I think he does all/or most of the work and takes time to show you all the parts that he replaced and why he replaced them before you pay the bill. Great guy to work with and knows his business. He's not the cheapest shop in town but with trannys you don't want to pay for them several times before someone gets it right.

Like somebody else said, if you're going Cummins, you're better off with the 6 speed manual. Kicking myself for not getting it when I bought the '02 new. Later when I was looking for another Ram, just could not find a stick so I settled for an auto in my '98 because it had a short bed which was my other "must have".
