Show me the ropes?
« on: November 01, 2016, 11:01:23 AM »
I got into hunting later in life than many, shooting a shotgun for the first time at age 27.  Since then I have hit the ground running, met a few buddies and mentors and have been hunting upland birds pretty hard now for the past three years. My love for bird hunting has grown and waterfowling has really piqued my curiosity. That said, none of my current friends or mentors have much experience or even interest in waterfowling.  I'm looking for someone, preferably within an hours drive of Wenatchee that might take me out for a day of duck/goose hunting.  I'll happily split the gas, buy the beer, and being a classically trained chef, I might be able to show you a thing or two about cooking.  Let me know.  For what it's worth Sunday's and Monday's work best for me.

Welcome to the Sport.  I can't believe you would have a hard time out in Wenatchee finding someone interested in hunting.  (Try living in Seattle.)  I was shown the ropes by some excellent hunters in Montana while in college out there 15 years ago and so I feel the obligation to pass it on, as I'm sure others do.  Keep poking around the blogs and someone is sure to take you out.  Unfortunately I'm not within an hour of you.  In Seattle, no one has taken hunters safety so that is the main hurdle for me in trying to bring out a new guy.  Also muzzle awareness takes a few YEARS to get a handle on, and my hunting party is a stickler on having guns pointed in their faces.  Keep that in mind.  Anyone out there reading this, don't underestimate the Trained Chef part... I hunted Mardon with some friends last season on a guided goose hunt and I gave one of the geese to a Chef in Seattle.  Ill try and post pics.  He used EVERYTHING! He made a reduction that was almost like liver, but tasted like stuffing.  It was crazy good.  We even kept some select feathers and made flies which caught fish!
