If you have time to waste while cleaning, pluck the breast of birds with a lot fat and then cut the breast out with the skin and fat attached and drop it by the house on the way home. I'll cure it and hang for a few weeks and have some cured cuts for you to enjoy ( if it turns out) I want to experiment a lot this winter.

Hit some PLots areas and waterfowl areas
Beautiful weather and getting into birds
Those roosters love to run. Dog has learned to run at a fast clip 100 yds ahead making a wide sweep then works herself back to cut off runners. Fun to watch a young dog develop

finished last day with a double
dog did a great job, figuring out the running rooster
Took me about 5 minutes to locate her pointing a rooster in the tall grass. But she held point! Thinking of picking up a GPS collar end of season
The older birds were found near water in the cattails
The sharptails liked to sit on the round bales just out of shooting range
last retrieve of the trip
I found that by parking at least 200 yds from the area I was hunting seemed to minimize the roosters fleeing before I arrived. I kept my dog on the leash until I arrived at hunting area. I walked quietly and did not talk to partner. Kept moving when pushing a hunting area. Seems whenever we stopped birds would get behind us or take off out of range
It nice to still have this type of hunting for wild birds in our country

GPS will make your hunts in CRP like that way more relaxing. We are hunting the same stuff and loving it.
