wyoming trespass fee antelope info?
« on: November 02, 2016, 11:48:23 AM »
starting to plan my 2017, me and my dad are wanting to get back to Wyoming for antelope and deer.
We have 1 point a piece going into the draw this year, and it doesn't look like I will be able to draw the units that I want to draw around Greybull/Worland with that, so we are thinking of hunting a little further east, near kaycee or Gillette.

I realize the public land is pretty spotty in the northeast, and would make for a tough hunt most likely, but we are willing to spend some money on trespass fees if they are reasonable.

we are wanting to harvest a buck and a few does a piece, seems like there should be plenty of tags left over to accomplish this, I just don't know what a typical trespass fee runs, if its 3-500$ each, we would most likely be in, if its more then that I will start looking elsewhere, and into the special draw to see what I can get done with a single point and a little more money.
had anyone hunted this area on a trespass hunt? if so do you have recommendations of who to talk to, your prices you paid?

We are also looking at hunting deer while we are there, I haven't started researching that yet, but if your familiar with the ne corner and have any advice. im all ear's!

I just got back from hunting near Buffalo. I hunted only for doe/fawn antelope using leftover licenses at $34/each. I hunted public land, or land accessible for free such as Walk In Areas and Hunter Management Areas. I was able to fill the four licenses I had. I did not have any "any antelope" licenses but could have filled them as well. The groups of antelope I saw all had bucks in them, and in some instances I saw only bucks. It did take a few days to fill the licenses, but if someone is willing to do some walking and glassing it's possible to do quite well without paying trespass fees.

I honestly think you're better off in most instances hunting public land. Landowners who charge a trespass fee will often get greedy and allow so many hunters on their property that there are few to no animals left.

Last time I was in Wyoming was 15 years ago, when I was 15, I don't remember seeing another hunter after antelope at all then. we got lucky and scored 4 unit 78 tags back then with 0 points. doubt thatll happen again!

I saw literally hundreds of mule deer. They're everywhere and thicker than flies at a summer picnic.
