Montana’s Initiative 177 was soundly rejected by voters in the Gem State on the Nov. 8 ballot. The initiative would have banned trapping on the state’s public lands and forced private landowners to document the used of non-lethal means for at least a month before using traps to resolve nuisance wildlife issues. While the final tally is still being determined, a vast majority of precincts have already reported and sportsmen are winning by a wide margin, 63 – 36 percent.

Received this e-mail today from the Montana Trappers Association;

I wanted to let you know that most of the votes are in and it looks like the ballot initiative #177 that would ban trapping on public lands in Montana was defeated 63% to 36%.

It did not get a majority of the vote in any county in Montana.

Please put a Thank You to the Washington Trappers Association in your next WTA newsletter from us trappers in Montana.

We appreciate your donation and support.  We put your donation to good use and we won.

We also need to help the guys in Idaho. They are under attack because of the Lynx. I joined the ITA.. and hope to move there some day!
