20 years ago I had a Beagle. He was a bird finding machine. I shot pheasants, huns, and chukar with him. The one thing I could never break him of was his speed. I was a lot younger but it was a bugger trying to keep up with him. The other problem was he would follow his nose, and you never knew what he was chasing until it flushed. I now how a Springer, who has a lot of drive but hunts are a slow speed. And when he gets hot its only for a upland bird
