GMU 407 Help
« on: November 13, 2016, 10:42:38 AM »
I'm not new to the 407 area by any means. Been living here since 1995. Unfortunately since then, I've had the absolute worst luck finding quality areas that hold deer. I've tried low lands and all the way up near Mt Baker. Near Blaine and out near Acme. I went scouting yesterday out near Kendall and didn't even spot a single doe. I'm hoping to find something for the late season archery hunt.

I'm not looking for anyone's secret honey hole. Just looking for an area to better learn and understand deer movement. If anyone has any input, PM welcome, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you

Wow. No reply. That'd lead me to believe there is no pressure. Good to know ;)

First off the 407 doesn't hold much public land. I hunt the 407 late season near my home. I've made friends and forged relationships with people who have small pieces of property, and I only bow hunt. It's taken some time but I've got a couple of places close by.  I find more deer near people's homes  than off in the woods it seems. If your rifle hunting your likely hosed. Additionally it's a little late in the year to try and get permission.

A good way to check things out is a camera and share some of the pics with a landowner. There are likely places that are void of deer and you don't want to waste time hunting there.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

As has been said 407 has very limited public land, especially for a rifle hunter. A few more options if you are picking up a shotgun or bow, but still limited. Anyone that has good intel on public land hunting in 407 is wise to keep it under wraps. Since the majority of the ground is privately held, you really need to knock on doors and forge relationships with property owners to find quality hunting that isn't overrun with hunters.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
