I use Kent #3's and Trulock tubes in my waterfowl shotgun and they pattern well.

I have the pattern master Code Black Goose and it works great. I have had way less cripples this year.

I use the mid-range PM in my 870, just use normal shells and like the hevi-steel #2.  I hated more open chokes because couldn't quit get the sight picture down like the PM forced me to.  Last weeks hunt, 3 stone dead ducks on 2 shots after jumping them out of the deeks.

When I 1st tried the PM at the range was turning some clays to powder and was afraid turning meat into jelly but that didn't happen, instead getting more lethal hits in front of the wings to the head.  Also like the ports which takes the jump out of the gun to the cheek.  My dad who hunted birds for decades and instructed hunters ed in two states he lived in for a combo of 20+ years says it can't be explained why ports reduce barrel jump.

I use the factory modified choke and shoot the cheap federal speed shock (blue box) 3" 2's. I usually go through a couple cases a year and hunt 3-4 days a week. You don't need the fancy shells to kill ducks, especially if you're shooting 40 yards or less. I can still consistently kill birds at 50 with this choke and load combo and have killed several even farther but if I was a dedicated pass shooter I just buy an extended range pattern master and shoot the same shells.

This is the same ammo I shoot, out of a factory I/C choke.  I sometimes go to modified choke late in the season or hunting in a field.

I'd pattern your gun with some different stuff before I went dropping a bunch of cash on a choke tube and expensive ammo.

I use federal #2 3" shells with a modified choke. Rogers sporting goods sells them for $100 for a case and that includes shipping and tax

I run the tightest patternmaster I can. Shooting any load going 1500 fps. Works great for me and it lets me single out divers on the swing.
