Let's talk boats!
« on: November 24, 2016, 06:42:40 PM »
Thinking it may be time to upgrade.  Like to hear thoughts/experience on new boats.  I'm thinking 18/20'.  Jet/outboard?  Aluminum such as alumaweld, thunder jet, north river, northwest boats.  Must be atleast 115 hp outboard or bigger.  Looking for best value, and options.

I've been eying the 18' weldcraft angler tiller! It's a 10 degree vee boat! Probably the best 18' I've seen! With the 80yamaha pump and 9.9 kicker and the options I need I think it's 32k :/

I maybe selling mine!  21' Thunderjet w/ off shore bracket.  150hp & 9.9 Yamahas.  I think I have 56 hours on the big motor.  Just don't have time to use it.

Weldcraft is an option but I should have mentioned I'm looking for a windshield boat.

I got this one 2 years ago. I couldn't be anymore happier. It's great for in the sound, lakes and ocean. It's a 2015 22' north river with 200 Yamaha and 9.9 kicker.

Love my NWJet. Lings, salmon, halibut. Not to mention perch and trout. Got rid of the glass boat and would never look back.

It really depends on how you want to use it. Where are you going to be using it?

Having an Alumaweld, I think you will find they are the lightest duty of the welded boats out there. However, they seem to be one of the least expensive as well.  Mine does me fine with year round use on the Sound, a 19'er.

H2O, wish I could seriously consider trading up to your boat....   :(

This probably makes a big difference as well as your budget.  Unfortunately for the buyer, new and used aluminum boats are quite a bit more expensive than fiberglass. There are instances where I would recommend glass over aluminum including they provide a smoother ride in general, the initial investment is substantially less, and they have a higher passenger capacity rating than aluminum, eg. my Alumaweld is only rated for five people. Aluminum over glass would be better fuel economy and easier towing due to them being generally lighter than glass. Aluminum is also better if you are beaching it a lot, though they make a good keel guard for fiberglass boats.

On my second Hewes. Great boats, solid, good welds, built in wa, . Lot's and lots of factors. Fit and finish is great without all the pretty stuff, carpet etc.

I went from hewes to north river in the same size, and it is night and day difference in every aspect. Much better built. All the boats mentioned will get the job done, some more comfortable than others
