It's like carrying a wet ice cube.I love carrying wood stocked rifles or composite. One of mine weighs 12.6 lbs...Just the chassis? No, everything. From a regular hunting standpoint, hiking around all day with a 12.5# rifle sucks.

Looking to upgrade the stock on a Howa 1500. Its a long action. I have a few Boyd's stocks and they are ok. Was hoping to find a Bell and Carlson, but their only option is the Weatherby type.Any other manufacturers I should look at?This will be a hunting rig & need to be bedded. I would prefer to keep it light.

The first question I'd ask is what's the budget?I absolutely love wood stocks, but top quality wood isn't cheap! For composite stocks both the Manners and McMillans are hard to beat.

It's not my main hunting rifle and maybe not worth going high end on it. $200-400?Just been shooting it a lot lately after some trigger adjustments and really starting to like it.
