Which wind powered decoy?
« on: December 01, 2016, 09:41:47 AM »
I haven't had much luck with wind powered decoys.  Most seem to take 30 knots just to get one wing turning and they end up not being used.  The best wind decoy that I’ve come up with is to pull the wings off a Lucky Duck and hang them vertically from a ball bearing swivel.  Doesn’t look much like a duck but at least it turns in the wind.

Anyone have any suggestions on wind powered decoys?

These work
https://windwhacker.com/

Good for snows.  Not to impressed with them for ducks.  Tried hunting over them last season and I gave them another try 4-5 times this season and ended up pulling them each time.  I would save your money on these.

I would go with a Winduck or a Revolution Waterfowl spinning wing decoy.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

 :yeah:
I have had similar results using them on ducks. Too much flash for ducks in my opinion. I would get a winduk

Get a pull string spinner and don't look back

I'm in the same situation on trying to decide on which to go with next. Tired of pulling the Mojos even if it's 5-10 mph. I've narrowed it down to the whipsplash (pull-string) or the Revolutions as mentioned. I'm just hesitant to go with anything other than pull string for those calm mornings? Anybody ever actually used either of these?

If you want a wind spinner Go for winduk, it changes direction with the wind. Pull string is king and knotty duck is definetly the smoothest of them all. whipsplash takes a little more effort to pull but is still pretty solid, just stay away from the aero.

I love the windwhackers. Light, easy to pack around and they're hands free. Canada's hate them, but in open-ish water I run 3-5 in the spread. Smaller water I will put them in nearby pockets 80-100 yards to take up space and push birds towards the killing hole I'm hunting
