Yeah, I would say take measurements on the factory rounds so you know the OAL, shoot factory ammo over chrono so you know FPS. Then start working up a load to match OAL and FPS... Ech barrel is going to have a jump to lands and fps that it likes, goal is to try to match that.
Can you, BLEND, different powders ? Not that I know of. Correct me if Im wrong, plz.

There is really no need to do it now. Mostly it was with black powder, put a few grains of smokless in first to get the powder to touch off a bit easier and help, supposedly, to reduce fowling.In smokless it was mainly because guys didn't have the powder options that we do now.
Go over to the Savage Shooters forum or 6.5 Creedmoor forum. Some of the first Hornady ammo had the load listed on the boxes. Some of the loads where using H4350.You might get more detail on the loads over there in the reloading sections.
