Carp Commander 2016-2017
« on: December 04, 2016, 04:47:49 PM »
Been chasing Muskrats for a couple weeks. I caught a couple of beaver and I have put-up several coyotes this year but otherwise been busy with other stuff. I have had two weird incidental catches this year. I have caught turtles and carp but never a sucker and definitely never a bird.

One of the two beavers I have caught for bait this year. It was a big one! Biggest I have ever caught.

Two incidental catches. The only thing I can figure is that the Grebe heard me coming and dove into the colony trap. Never seen it, heck never even heard of catching a bird in a colony.

No Grebe's were harmed in the catching of those muskrats!

I got my cat line in and pre baited heavy. Pulled all the doors, baited them heavy and put cameras on four of them. It sure is hard to brush in your cat traps when there isn't any brush!

I sure hope coyotes continue to hold decent prices! I have a hundred rats this year so yeah that's at least $28 and those two beavers might get me to the $30.  :chuckle:

10x12x40 and it took awhile to get him out. Big Beavers will go into a 10x10 as long as it's long enough or has fast doors, it will be just fine.

CC the grebe probably was chasing small fish and went through the funnel just like a muskrat would.  Nice photos.  Glad to see the tradition is still alive.

No I don't. Once I turn them fur out, I pin the ears through the eye wholes and let them finish drying.

I am no expert but I think in order to have any success with badgers you have to be prepared for the long game. Because of this I set as many traps as I can over the largest area I can. What works best for me to "long line" and not get too far off the road. I made some traps that allow me to hide traps in plain sight. I collect used bedding from my rabbit cages or mouse nests from the wood pile for bait. Just the bedding/nest seems to be enough for them to commit.

Not a lot of trapping going on with everything frozen over. I'm anxious to get to work on Badger and Beaver but right now getting out of the driveway is challenging. Been putting up a good amount of coyotes though.

I guess I should add the right picture.
