Coyote Tanning? - Reasonable pricing?
« on: December 06, 2016, 07:43:36 AM »
I used to get my yotes tanned after I shot them through a local taxidermist - I don't remember what they charged, but it was reasonable enough that I had 3 or 4 of the nicer hides tanned over the years. Since then, that particular taxidermist has retired and I'm wondering where I could go to get just a hide or two every now and then tanned for a reasonable price - anybody have any ideas? I'm on the west side, but most of my coyote hunting is over in the Columbia Basin.

"IMPORTANT: For furbearing animals you must specify “TAXIDERMY” or “DRESSING” on your order form."

What's the difference between “TAXIDERMY” and “DRESSING” ?

Quality of tan & how they cut it. Every pelt/hide has a grade. Check Moscow Hide & Fur out of Moscow,Id. They have always done a good job for me. Not the fastest turn around but fair prices.

If you want it for a wall hanger go Dressing but know it has to be completely fleshed and the ears turned. Moyle's is really backed up now. With low prices everybody has sent them work. I think a 9 to 10 month turnaround.

I send 50-100 furs a year to Moyle and they do a great job! Only thing I really stress to anyone who is having a fur tanned is make sure you turn the ears and lips. And if you messed up on the tail at all expect it to be gone below that point when you get it back. I know that sounds brutal but its how it is. I've seen a lot of taxidermists charge prices like mentioned above and just be the middle man and send them off to Moyles.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
