They are in the trees hiding from you

I found them in the swamps yesterday. The nasty stuff that you can't get through in the early season and can't see the birds if you do flush them because of the leaves. That's where my dog took me yesterday. Good thing we wore our muck boots and rain gear it was a mess in there. But we found Birds. 2 blind flushes one point and a miss, I smacked a tree.  Wet day but fun exploring the nasty stuff. Put you dog in a likely area and follow it's nose. And bring a pair of pliers as my dog decide to grab a porcupine yesterday as well.

What elevation were you at?
Friend: "Are you free tonight?"
Me:  (Gazing into the distance as a bald eagle screeches)  "I'm always free"

First off expect nothing. There is simply not a ton of grouse on this side. A good day is a blind flush a great day is a shot and a miss and a bird in hand is a miracle.
That's only when you're not hunting them.   I could have got my limit multiple days when I was carrying a rifle or bow.  Tons of *#$@ that never happens when you have the shotgun ... like standing in the middle of the road and let me walk up to 20 yards ... or just coasting right down the middle of the road ... or flushing to a tree closer to you in plain sight.  Was having so many in and on the side of roads that I started wondering what a 300 win mag would do to a grouse.  Probably should have tried to find out, then I would have realized my gun was somehow 6in low at 100yards and I wouldnt have missed a bear  :bash:.
