I'd send him somewhere that is a "sure thing".  Somewhere that has not seen a "chuck" present since the last ice age.

I don't mind helping especially if it's a draw tag that I have hunted before. If it's an OTC area it's a little different.

Or better yet, when somebody learns all of their significant other's hard earned "honey holes" both in state and out, then separates and parades a new group of buddies through them each year. Complete with a very in-depth write up of each trip, Stopping just short of actual map and gps coordinates.   :yike: :bash:

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I agree with sharing info on a draw tags. Many of us wait years to draw a coveted tag in an area we cant regularly hunt or scout. I have been given some great Intel on this site from others via PM, and have tried to do the same when given the opportunity. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go do your own scouting, or that its ok to pass that information on to a public forum or complain if you don't have success in that area. There are a lot of unwritten rules when it comes to sharing spots, taking others to a spot you hold dear, or pointing someone in the right direction. You have to just be really careful about who you share information with and also be very forthright with your expectations. I have taken people before under the premise that I have their word they will not go to this undisclosed location without me and will tell no one where we went. Again; this has bitten me before. But the expectation is clear that if that trust is broken I will never take them anywhere again. In my tight group of hunting partners it is just a given; but I hear people often talking about situations they find themselves in and have just realized a lot of people don't know. They weren't raised in a hunting family, or were not mentored by someone who placed an importance on it, or they just want to be a media sensation and are willing to screw anyone else over to get their 5 min of fame. So if you do trust someone with a spot, make sure you're clear on if they can hunt it without you, if they can talk about it, and if they can take pictures there and post them on the forum! As we say; we don't always tell people where we hunt, but when we do. We lie.

I've been fairly open with a few PM's on here this year and with some folks I know in real life too on where I was going or where I would look with a taneum cow tag (it's literally turning into me and my closest 350 friends)

That being said other than my hunting partner I saw one other boot print the entire year/season (literally one, we couldn't figure that out). I figure if you seem decent I'll help out as alot of people have helped me and if you're willing to get out of your truck and hike back there is room for both of is.

Haven't been burned by anyone yet though. If it happens I'm sure I'll change my tune.

That is pretty well the way I feel about it.   You can see that I closely crop photos and blot out any identifying landmarks before posting them.  I will freely share with people what to look for and give them a general sense of where to start looking for game, but that is pretty much as far as I will go when helping someone out.   Now, if someone had drawn a tag and I could help them out, in that case I would do what I could to help them be successful.

Nothing is sacred any more.  If you have one of those special places, do not tell a soul.  People can't help themselves.  I have been burned more than once.
