All wildlife takes a back seat to wolves.

Not just wildlife, human life as well. This is a disturbing article. The Northeaster US is far more compacted than the PNW. This could be devastating and a severe public health danger. I would not be at all surprised to see bounties brought back on coywolves and coyotes.

The moose population is easily half of what it was when I left the area in 2001.  I've been fortunate to be able to hunt moose the last two years, but it certainly isn't the hunt that it used to be.  When a warden tells you about all the moose he has had to "put down" in the past few winters that were suffering and says "don't be disappointed if you don't get one", you know it's bad.

A moose hunt in 2000 I would have had no problem passing on bulls until the last afternoon of the hunt.  Now you may not see one for days...

I've been able to shed hunt a couple times since leaving and found lots of bones and know of many people who find coughing moose unable to move in the snow.
