Otters in the boat house
« on: December 12, 2016, 10:06:01 PM »
A week ago I set some cages inside a boat house.
Chained the cages tightly to the dock near their very obvious toilet.
Used a can of sardines and metal fishing flashers tied to the top of the cage. Clam juice, oyster juice and a little bit of Cavens Otter Lure Supreme poured into a tin foil cup behind the pan...

Had one in the 16X16X42 cage today

Aww, he otter know better than to fall for that!  I know, that pun doesn't hold water around here....  I'll put it back in the cage, but now I'm trapped without a better pun.

.....I'll see myself out....
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

Release it in the hatchery ponds at the Cowlitz.

The thing will starve to death.

Nice!
Always wondered how they act if your that close to one live, especially in a cage. Was it trying to destroy the cage and tear you apart or just sitting there like a cat?  :dunno:

Not quite full size. Still somewhat of a juvenile I'd say

Yup, I plan on keeping cages there for a while.

Mostly just trying to get out of the cage., but they'll get pretty feisty when picking up the trap...also noisy at times. Most of my other otters were in the swim thrus you built...it took a while to get a job where a land set was the best option

Nice!  We had otters in our boat house.  Damn, they can make a mess!  Unfortunately our yacht club prohibited trapping them so I wound up placing bowls of ammonia around the boat. It worked really well.
