One thing about gobblers, just when you think your really good, one will show up and show you how much you don't know. I am really glad the birds over on this side of the state are starting to get smarter and more enjoyable to hunt. I love being shown up by a clever bird, makes me work harder and try diffferent calls and tatics, lots more fun then when they gobble, you give them a few soft yelps and they land in front of you at first light.

My new tactic is to drink the whole pot of coffee before killing my turkey at 10:30 am.
That actually happened two years ago...Me and my bud Don decided to sleep in...after our late whiskey campfire...the night before...We got up at 7:00 and I started cooking breakfast...Huckleberry pancakes, sausage, eggs and got the coffee pot going...Halfway through cooking the meal......A turkey gobbles below camp. I was like was that what I think that was? I go Don did you hear that ...he said No...Then the turkey gobbled again...I looked at Don and he smiled ...I said well we can't have that! We put down the coffee mugs and put our stuff on and walked down the trail..I call bird gobbles and comes right in I shoot him...And can't believe it...We get back to camp and the coffee was still hot!...Yeah baby I love the Spring..

Yelp & Slayer, I will let you know after the season how the new stuffer worked out. Last year in NE WA with all the snow the birds were down low during the first two weeks of the season and the stuffer would have come in handy. If all the snow melts and we have some decent (warmer) weather, I will be leaving the stuffer in the truck! I agree that decoys are not usually needed. Last year in one of our setups, I had a hen decoy out and called a gobbler came across a large field, but then he shyed away at the 50 yard mark.
