I guess I just won't give up my tag on a two point, so have at it guys shoot up all them two pointers with eye guards. And I will stick to putting my tag on the bigger bucks. I would pass him up on the morning of the last day of my hunt. You can't shoot a 4 point if you settle for 2 pointers. First buck or 2nd tag buck sure.

Why is it considered to be bad genetics? Is it detrimental to the buck, only having two points, or is it only that it doesn't live up to our expectations for a "trophy" buck?

My guess would be the latter.

I would let him grow for a couple years before taking him. Can't shoot wall hangers if you take the little ones. Great picture though .Watched this Black tail grow up for a couple years before I took him and yes a true black tail west of  I-5

That buck is not getting any bigger.  He'll live out his life as a giant 2 point I'd wager.

That is more likely than not fact that that buck is not going to grow any more points than it has in the photo.  I have seen some great two point blacktails in the last few years, and would have taken any of them if I could have right-time, right-placed them.  Never could catch them where I had access when I had the tag and the season was open.

Sub-par in the quality antler department. At least that's what the hunting world has determined to be low quality genetics.

I personally think a giant two point is more interesting and unique than a decent 4 point.

No way do I pass that deer up during late archery. I shoot what is a trophy to me and that guy definitely fits the bill.

He will die if I see him.  I once held off for 4 days looking for a particularly odd 2-point in MT that I had seen the day before the season opened.  I passed on many bucks too.  The mass on this buck was amazing.  Never did see him again.

Always have been mature two points, some of which regressed from four points.  An old, mature two point with eye guards (to make it legal) is near the top of the list for me.  Have always thought they were really cool.

That buck is mature age-wise, he's not your typical 2.5 yr 2 point.  Although I don't hunt the Palouse / breaks of the snake river anymore, that country is loaded with 2pt breeder bucks.  They'll never develop forks, they are and always will be 2 pointers with an occasional eye guard or sticker.  The two pointers became the prodminant buck once the 3 PT or better restrictions were implemented a couple decades back.
