Rifle late i would likely pass. If he had 2 inch eyegaurds that would be a big game changer. Archery unless I was having epic buck sightings he is getting an arrow.

I'm a late archery guy, yes I would notch my tag on that guy every and any day of the season.

Would really depend what unit, what day of the hunt, and what had been seen so far up to that point.

I think the key is the word "tag", that makes me think you are talking general season, not a special permit.

I might pass if I had a special permit, depending on a lot of variables.

General season late archery tag he is getting an arrow first hour of the season all the way up until the last sliver of hunting light.

To me, that is the classic late tag buck.  Old, dark horns, good mass - rare to see bucks like that in the regular season.  It's a perfect example for the "great bucks that don't score diddly" thread.  If we didn't have weather that year or I just wasn't seeing other bucks like that, I'd drop him in a heartbeat.  But if it's early in the hunt or I'm seeing lots of mature bucks, maybe I hold out for something with a bit more wow factor.

Well, bottom line is this was a tough year.  It wouldn't matter what tag you had.  This buck may well have bested this years rafflebuck.   I no way want to take away from that trophy either.  Just commenting that this year, if you'd have let him walk, you may not have done better.   .....and that's ok too.

Bone, do you have a side view?  I think this view could be hiding a little of what's there.  It's hard to tell fork depth on this buck with a face on shot.

Still... Face on view only and he would be going down.  Could spend the rest of the season looking for 10 more inches.

I was probably breathing heavy.  I think living in Yakima is effecting me at high altitudes. Yeah that's it.   It's not the 50 pounds I put on since getting married again.

I really love these kinds of threads.  So much to think about.  I really hope to draw a late permit one day and have to ponder this type of stuff.

I was just texting some of the mods earlier talking about what I would or wouldn't shoot with a late permit.  I think for me it would really be more about the hunt and all the animals that I could see and the experience that I would share with friends and family.  The buck would just be a reminder of the hunt.

Might pass with the bow - unless or until he looks away!  Rifle say boom.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
