check out shiver shield, its not very thick but fairly heavy.  Surprised me the first time i picked it up.  Comfy and very warm

Do you own this jacket? How quiet is it? I spooked a few deer this last season drawing on super cold days with snow on the ground no wind so every little noise could be heard.

I don't yet.  My brother picked one up and I tried his on.  Not sure what to compare it to as far as quietness goes, but i plan on getting one and using it for the November and December archery hunts.  I'm a tall guy and when i stretch out my arms it doesn't ride up my arms like my current coat does.

Wool sweater and an old wool Johnson Mills jacket with a camo shell layer has done very well for me. The big thing is to find a layering system that works for you. I'm from Maine and have sat in -15,-20 degree weather for 8 hours and its purely because I had the proper layers. All the new high tech gear is great but dont ever count out solid classic wool layers. IMHO wool layers are the best to keep warm.

I started wearing under armour long johns, top and bottom, layered with Merino wool shirt, and then Cabela's wooltimate jacket and pants.  Wore this in Montana in 3 degree temps with no issues.  Gets a bit warm if hiking hard or chasing, but very doable.
