100 grain Federal blue box, bang flop
deer and coyotes
Carl

Yes.  Federal 100-grain blue box- the deer I have taken with this .243 Win round (shot from Savage model 16) were down pretty quickly.  My Idaho whitetail buck last year did make it about 80 yards on a solid double-lung shot, but I think that was fairly atypical.  A friend of mine, using my gun and the same bullet, dropped a big mountain muley in Montana right in its tracks.

I double lunged a black tail doe this year at 70 yards with a 300 win mag shooting a 200 grain bullet.  She made it 60 yards.  Last year my elk went about the same distance with 3 in the heart and lungs. I don't think the bang flop is directly related to which high power rifle load you shoot.

The only deer that I have bang flopped, was a muley buck with a 300 win mag spine shot, and a blacktail buck with my 243, accidental shot behind the right ear. :o

I've done it with a 308, 270, 300 mag and .50 muzzleloader.  I've also had them run off after the shot with those same weapons.

I agree! Bullet choice is a big one! and shot placement. I have heard lots of good stuff about Nosler Partitions. Berger VLD's and Hornady SST's. I have been shooting ELD-X's at Coyotes and they seem to do terrific. looking forward to ventilating a deer with one.

This bang flop talk needs its own thread, I think. :chuckle:

Any hunting bullet in 243, 6mm  could drop any deer in its tracks, hit in the right spot, no secrets.

I've only had one bang flop on a sporked horn with my 243. Most are a bang ... Bounce bounce bounce bounce.....crash

Those are next up on the test bench to work up a load.  I'm going to have a hard time not using the SST's though.

They shoot good out of my .243 but have not used it for deer yet, the wife's shoots the SST better.

I loaded some of these up in a short barreled 243 with H100v and they shot really good.  Not sure how they perform on game, but they certainly shot good enough
