Westside weather and coyotes
« on: December 21, 2016, 11:43:09 AM »
I'm playing with the idea of going out to do some predator hunting close to home in Puget Sound. I've got a few spots that I see lots of sign when deer hunting, so I'm going to start there. What I'm wondering, is if the weather has a significant effect on coyotes, cougars, bobcats, etc... willingness to play. Will they come as well in the rain as on nice days? I know calm clear days allow the sound to travel better, but other than that, is there a reason to focus on those days primarily?

I've called some in the rain.  opening day deer season this year was pouring to say the least and the yotes were singing..
good luck.

7mmfan,
Did you ever get out to hunt coyotes on the West side?  I'm North of Monroe and have thought about getting out myself, but never hunted them.

I haven't yet. I went out and scouted an area on the last snowfall and found plenty of sign. I just haven't had the time recently to get out. Even found a recent deer kill, whether by coytoes or not, they were taking full advantage of it. I really need a better coyote caliber weapon, so I don't have to haul my 7 mag around!

I've got a few 25-06s and a .243 I'd like to get out and try, but I've got to do some studying on how to hunt them!

I have little knowledge on hunting them as well, but a guy I think we both know has a caller. Which would be beneficial. There's plenty of dogs around, just have to get them in the open.

I'm game. I'm thinking the next time we get a fresh skiff of snow, could be a great time.
