and I was thinking a 400 Whelen(Petrov) would be fun, some background on the 1903; cut down stock, rear sight missing and rear sight base ground smooth, williams peep sight installed, barrel matches receiver, it is a post WWI rifle, bore is good. Anyway just wanted to get some opinions before I make up my mind. Thanks
If you have not already, make sure the receiver is not one of the weak, potentially dangerous ones. A little background info on them:http://m1903.com/03rcvrfail/

308 Norma mag? .35 Whelen would be sweet, too. I have a Win 1917 that will someday hopefully see a .404 Jeffery barrel

Dad and I have done .375 and .450 Ackley Magnums on them.
Got my rifle back today, I went with 375 Whelen and now I just have to wait for the dies I have on back order with CH4D. I have 50 rds of new Remington 35 Whelen brass and an expander die so at least I can get a little bit of a start.

I have a .375 Gibbs on a Mauser action and love it! Fun gun, will be a great brush hunter. Just on a side note the P14 action will take up to the .577 Tyranasaur if you can find a smith to do it. I have a couple around for something different one of these days.
We need pics.
