Ruger American or Savage Trophy
« on: December 23, 2016, 06:23:44 AM »
Looking for a new rifle for E WA deer season. I've only hunted blacktail, so would like input on the pros and cons of the above listed rifles. I'm thinking a .270, but have read great things about the Ruger Creedmoor and predator. Thanks in advance.

I've had trouble with the magazines on my Ruger American, got replacement ones from ruger and still the same problems. Not as reliable as they should be as far as magazines go. Just my 2 cents, no idea about the savage

Got my kid a Ruger American Compact 7mm-08. 40 rounds no clip issues so far. I heard they mostly have corrected that issue.
His cousin has a Savage in a 243 and it works quite well too. For the price point I am sure you will be fine with either.

I don't have the Savage but I do have 3 Ruger Americans (2-270's, 1-7mm-08). All shoot lights out. I have never had an issue with any of them. I can't think of any negative I've heard from others either.

Ruger compact in 7mm-08 works great.  If you have the coin the Browning X-Bolt is a sweet rifle.

I'm sure you can't go wrong either way. The Ruger American predator is on sale a cabelas for$399. I bought one in 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday.

Have owned both.....And now only own savage.  The Ruger was a compact in .243 and shot fine, it just wasn't my ball of wax. All my savages feel good and shoot amazingly well out of the box.  I personally would shy away from the savage axis.....Though a lot of people like them.

My vote is for savage. I have a trophy hunter in 30-06. I also have an axis in .223, and have had a bunch on their rimfires over the years. All extremely accurate.

I am able to put rounds in one hole from 100yards with factory ammo. You get a lot for your money with the savage. I am huge Ruger fan as well, however I feel the savages are more accurate out of the box and the accutrigger is amazing. The 110 action they use on the trophy hunter is a time proven design and mine shoots lights out. This gun compares to Remington 700 type action whereas the American compares to the Axis type action. To me it feels a little more refined and of higher quality than the American.
