Skagit Poop Show
« on: December 26, 2016, 06:10:13 PM »
Hunted Skagit for the first time today.....

What a freaking circus is all I have to say.  :bdid:

Guys EVERYWHERE, set up in every blind. Blowin' on their kazoos (do people really think their calling is good???), 3 spinning wing decoys, artillery barrage at any bird flying within 7 miles...and then another group doing the same thing 75 yds down LOL  :bash:

That place is crawling with birds but holy cow is it stressful to hunt with that many other guys around.

Maybe I'll chalk it up to it being the day after Xmas, but man alive...I have seen some crowded marshes and today takes the cake by a long shot.

Today and the opener are the two busiest days and you went to the most highly publicized spot.  There are going to be plenty of people for sure.  Like any other wildlife, figure out where they go when the crowds push them.

I'm kicking myself because I always hunt during the week. Mondays typically rock on public land...when I got there this morning I had a little "aha moment". Everyone had the same idea lol.

I'll be back...but it won't be until everyone goes back to work/school.

Too Funny! i was just about to post a rant as well. My son and I drove up mid-morning and arrived for the evening shoot. Our first time there, and I did not want to be wondering around in the dark being "That Guy".... Found two open blinds but decided to set up in the open and just lay in the grass with a few of my best blocks set out into a 40X40 hole in the ice that we made ourselves. The weather began to roll in around 2 and there were a good number of birds flying. The first words out of my son's mouth, "Dad, do you think these guys understand that we are using shotguns, and Not rifles?" Wise words from a 9 year old! I understand public land has the good, the bad, and the ugly, but this was freaking crazy. We were able to each bring down 2 birds. No calling, No Wind Deeks, No 90 yard shots. I will go again as the area is holding a respectable number of birds. I Will Never go around a weekend or Holiday again, ever. Best part was the guy who was clobbering them at 4:41pm. Why is there never a warden around when they actually can do some good  :dunno:

Pretty common hearing guys constantly blow into their calls, gets annoying really quick.
