Having drempt about hunting giant bucks in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan since I was old enough to remember, pawing through my dads Petersons Hunting and Outdoor Life magazines, I finally took the plunge. Last winter I noticed one of the site sponsors here posted a year in review in the sponsor classifieds. I contacted owner/outfitter Kevin Loades and with a few phone conversations, decided to book. I originally planned on rollin up solo until my fishing pard wanted to book as well. a phone call to kevin and he was able to accommodate Kirk and I. Throughout the year Kevin would call, and/or text game cam photos, letting me know what was going on, scouting reports etc, which I appreciated. Kirk and I's hunt was a 2 on 1 7 day hunt Fast forward to November 23rd 2016. Kevin guided us through, and supplied us with all paperwork, firearms declaration, license's, Alberta hunters card, etc. This made for a very smooth easy border crossing. After a long assed drive, we arrived at Kevins place in Viking around 10:30 pm. Several guys were up, guides, hunters and of course Kevin. Kevin immediately offered kirk and I dinner they had saved for us, but we declined. After some small talk we were off the bed. First morning early get up, breakfast, lunches were made off to the blinds. First time I have ever hunted out of a blind, thank god I had cell service!! I saw a few deer, several moose, but no shooters. Kirk and other guys in camp had several buck sightings but no shooters as well. Blinds were really nice, carpet, chairs, sliding windows, heaters with lotsa country to view. I sat for 2 days with the feeling that at any minute, the next world record could appear!! Just desolate, huge country that is perfect habitat to grow huge deer, perfect combination of agriculture fields and brush patches, what they call "bush". Day 3 rolls around, and my guide Jody could tell sitting in a blind was starting to take a toll on me so he says lets go spot n stalk and look over some country. Day 3, that's what we did. Lots of deer sightings, some great muleys and lots of moose. Like most of the west Alberta was experiencing above average temps, and a early October snow storm covered up a ton of crops, there was literally feed everywhere in all the ag fields. The combination of those 2 things had deer movement down to a minimum. Bout 10;30 we came to area with lotsa deer sign. after a little investigation we pushed a nice 3 by 4 plus eyeguards out that Kirk decided to ghost. Damn nice buck, pics don't do him justice but he's 23' wide and nice heavy mass. After taking care of kirks buck we drive into town to fuel up and hit er again in a little different are. Bout 1:30 we pull up to a big brushy hillside and start glassing, Jody immediately spots a deer. I look it over, he's standing in the brush making a scrape, doing the licking branch, I see all I need to see and tell Jody I'm killing him. Bout a 200 yard shot through a basketball size window in the brush, my 6 mm AI delivered the 80 gr nosler where it needed to be....

Lock n Load is a top notch outfit, great accommodations, really nice comfortable house/lodge, everyone had there own bedrooms, big family room for everyone to BS and watch football at the end of the day. Skinning shack with electric winch, bunkhouse for the guides. Kevins mom and dad would come over everyday and cook dinner, meals were amazing, and his mom and dad were great company!! If anybody is looking for the hunt of a lifetime with great folks, hit Kevin up. Kevin and his guides are hunters, they know how to find game. Come as a stranger, leave as a friend.

No they're weatherby wool, bought 2 pairs about 10 years ago, they quit making them, love em....

Was a great season with the perfect mix of guys in 2017. With the mild winter we had again this year looking forward to the 2017 season!!
