First turkey hunt?
« on: December 06, 2016, 08:20:11 PM »
Hello all, I just moved from the wet side to the Tri-City area and am planning to do my first turkey hunt this spring. I have never gone turkey hunting before so it is completely new to me. I bought a book to study up on the basics of it. I know I just need to get out and start scouting before the season opens in the spring. But because I am so new to the area I don't know what areas are open to the public for hunting. I guess i am looking for some advice on where to go and what to do when I am out there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Newbie here. I am looking to hunt Dec 12-13th for turkey. I am new to turkey hunting and also not familiar with any of the GMUs that are open to turkey late season. If there are any other hunters out there willing to help me out please PM me. Thank you in advance.

This thread has a lot of good information on how to find a hunting spot, and what resources there are for maps and research.

I'd look for a place that has pine trees, water, and fields within a mile of each other using the GoHunt map, aerial view.

I live up North, but willing to travel. I'm looking at getting into Turkey this year as well, I wouldn't mind having somebody to get into with, so if you want a hunting buddy let me know.

I can tell you all that if you want to get into turkeys they are mostly in the north east corner of the state.  Tri Cities actually had a recent amount of birds  around. Good resource would be to go to  the NWTF website and look for local chapters in your area.  See if you can't get a hold of someone within the chapter.  They maybe able to point you in the right direction.   I am the chapter president for the west side of WA.  If you habe any questions shoot me a pm and i will send you my number.  Also read your regs.  There are only certain GMU's open in the fall for OTC turkey.   Have fun and good luck.

I'm the chapter president here in Klickitat County. Our chapter banquet is April 1st. Come meet some people and you may end up finding some areas to hunt. We are not that far from you.
