Canvasback mounts
« on: December 29, 2016, 04:15:31 PM »
Just got my first bull can, now looking for some ideas for the mount! I am looking mostly for some pictures of flying mounts. Also instead of starting a new thread, does anyone have any taxidermist recommendations in western wa? Would prefer someone who specializes in waterfowl

Thanks in advance!

Matt Klope at Whidbey Island Taxidermy does excellent waterfowl mounts - waterfowl are his specialty. I have never had him do one for me, as I don't waterfowl hunt, but he does my deer mounts for me. He won the Ducks Unlimited Best Waterfowl Award and First Place Waterfowl Entry by the Washington State Taxidermy Association in the 2016 WA State Taxidermy Competition. He has a website and a Facebook page if you want to see some pictures of his work:

Here's some pic's of one I had done back in 2011.  Pic's were when I first brought it home.

Where in wa are you? If more south end, Rick at cedar river has a good program. He's a site sponsor. Look him up. In black diamond area.

Greenhead I am in Graham, have a buddy who just got a turkey done by whoever Rick sends his birds out to.  It  turned out very nice.

A friend and I did the work.  Got most of the materials from the banks of the Snohomish river and McKenzie Taxidermy supply.

Whether you try to do it yourself or get it done professionally the main advice I have a for a bull can flying mount is that personally I like a bird with the wings cupped like mine is with the bird banking somewhat.  It looks pretty sharp still.  Congrats on getting a mounter.
