For the AR inclined people I have questions
« on: December 27, 2016, 03:12:06 AM »
I am building my first non OTC AR.
So far I have;
Built a lower on an Anderson Reciever
I have the Stoner Side Charging upper and BCG.

I want to do a free floated 20" Flat top gun for shooting shtuff. The plan is to build a very accurate rifle. anywho I got an email from midway and I am curious if you guys know anything about these....Says it has the 5R rifling and has a .750" Gas Block thingy so I need one of them and a rifle length gas tube.

It's going to be very forward heavy. .750 is the standard sized gas block. Depending upon the length of your forend will dictate gas block options. The port shout be 12 in out so if you want that length or longer forend you will need a lo pro gas block. If you want to go shorter standard front sight gas block would work or a pic rail gas block if you want to put on a flip up front sight. I personally like to use a forend that covers the gas block and a use flip up sights on the forend pic rail. Do you already know what forend you will be using some of the basic tube style don't fit over the gas block just something to think about when trying to decide. I learned in my first build not all armorers wrenches are alike, I've got the aim sport wrench many like it out there they are junk for torqueing down the barrel or installing a quad rail. The spanner wrench on it doesn't fit the jamb nut on quad rails and the 1/2" torque wrench socket is bigger than 1/2" smaller than 3/4" just turned out to be garbage. I keep it around for maintenance and ordered a magpul for my next project. Once you build one you build another and another and another, buy quality tools now so you can buy only once.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

I was looking at Seekins forends and low pro gas blocks...I really like the forend on my brothers DD V7

Unless you're going with a fixed stock that is on the stouter side of things I would look at lightweight forends. The Seekins noxs aren't too bad maybe even something in carbon fiber. I have the same profile barrel 18" it's a little unbalanced not bad if your going to shoot mostly from a bench or other support device, I use a tripod in the field doesn't feel the best shooting standing unsupported.

+1 for the magpul armorers wrench. If you plan on shooting heavies I would go with 1:7 twist. Jmo
