Finished up my new muzzy
« on: January 02, 2017, 11:38:58 PM »
A REAL muzzleloader! Not that plastic scoped wee wee I can't see open sights,so many others shoot  :chuckle:

I got this one back in November and took my time building it.

Muzzle-loaders had a deal on them at $318, so what the heck. After you buy all the sand paper, stain/finish kit, its not that much less than a factory build, but that's ok, my kit was made by me, to my liking.

Tomorrow I will try 100 yards to see how low she shoots, then move into 75-85 yards and zero in as we're trying to get out to a friends place for a hog hunt. I'd like to keep my shots under 100 yards.

The top picture didn't do it justice, but when you came down close the figuring in the stock just made it pop for me. Excellent job on the fit and finish. I like it and it will bode well to your legacy. :hello:

got out yesterday for her first 100 yard stretch. EXTREMELY pleased! After close to 20 shots I called it a day and came away with my hunting load. Im now using 80gr olde eynsford 2fg, .020" patch and .490" round ball.

The rifle seems to prefer a CLEAN bore in order to shoot dead center. If I shoot dirty, it goes up a bit and to the right, but groups super tight as you will see in the video.

The rear sight placement was perfect for my eyes and makes shooting at longer ranges easy. Shes sighted in for hogs now!

This was the first 3 shots at 100 using 80gr jim shockeys gold super powder, .020" patch and .490" round ball. See what I mean about the group shift on a fouled bore?

From the same day, but this time using Olde Eynsford black powder 2fg, .020" patch and .490" round ball. First shot was on a freshly cleaned bore at 100 yards. Next 2 were on a fouled bore and firing using the atv seat as a rest, from 80 yards.
