Goat Rocks (and their namesake residents)
« on: September 05, 2017, 12:17:07 PM »
Hey folks,

Finally made it to backpacking in the Goat Rocks after living in WA for 2.5 years.  We camped near Cispus Pass and were chaperoned by the resident billy.  We watched him all evening and went to sleep with him bedded about 350yds away, eyes on us the whole time.  I even stalked to about 25 yards from him to get a photo, spooked him a bit when my foothold gave out, and he trotted about 40 yards before bedding down to watch me descend back to the campsite.

It was a beautiful area and we had a blast!

Maybe Jackalope should hit this spot in a few weeks.

I'd totally take that billy if I had a tag.  But I'm not sure I'd want to take him in view of all the PCT hikers :)

Ideally all the pct hikers will be mostly gone a month from now.

Thanks for sharing.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield
