All 4 units are open for archery for the month of September basically.  McCall is surrounded by NF.   There are plenty of places to hunt around there.  I have never hunted it, but we vacation there a lot with the in-laws and I've done plenty of hiking around.  Looks like great elk country and I know a few people that have hunted around there, they all seemed to do fine.  That is where Elknut lives, but I'd guess he wouldn't want to give out elk spots close to where he lives.  We were heading back to Boise last year and ran across him broke down on the highway along the river with a bad serpentine belt.  I think he was surprised he got recognized on the side of the road.  I'd love to have stopped and picked his brain about local hunting while he was waiting for a new belt, but the wife and in laws were giving me the "Really?!" look, he probably would have too  :)

I'm also looking for a new area for archery, one thing I recall about that area is a couple guys bought a crap load of land by McCall and no longer allow hunting on it.  Can't remember the facts, someone else might.  Never been to McCall but I've heard it's very beautiful.
This is starting to worry me.
My Uncle just bought a place in McCall. When we were there a few months ago he was showing us some of the roads that had fresh gates on them that previously allowed public access. It's all part of the Wilks property.
