Sorry its taken me so long to get around to doing this but I wanted to carry the new little gun for a bit before giving my final thoughts.
So I bought this little guy a little guy from Sporting Systems in Vancouver about 2 months back and have been carrying it front pocket the whole time. This weekend I finally got out to Safe fire and ran a box through it as well as some carry ammo.
The Good:
The sights are much more useful. I did notice in range lighting they are still a little hard to pick up but for the guns intended purpose they did just fine.
Recoil was much more manageable compared to the gen one, in fact I really liked shooting this guy. the grip change is defiantly noticed and an improvement.
The trigger is also much better and a 10ft I was able to keep 12 shots in about a silver dollar size group. with a bit more practice it could be better but again for first time out and considering the guns intended purpose I was impressed.
Also this guy carry's like a dream and stays in my front pocket without ever bothering me.
The Bad:
So not all has been roses for this little bugger.
After about 2 week of carrying I notice something sharp on the gun when I ran my finger over it. I found that one of the pins at the rear of the grip has started to walk itself out. I fixed it by hammering it back in but it was defiantly a concern. hasn't done it since.
The holster it comes with is a bit of a joke. Its about the same as an uncle mikes pocket holster and doesn't really add any protection besides the trigger. In fact on more than one occasion I either leaned on a table or bumped it just right and the magazine button was hit and the mag came out.
I also after about a month notice that the gun started to get some rust towards the rear sight. it came off with some mild scrubbing but considering this gun is sold as a pocket gun (they even give you the holster) the finish should be more durable.
I did have one failure to feed. I ejected the round, put it back in the mag, chambered and it fired. I chalk this up to probably limp wristing (not uncommon in these types of guns) or break in. No other problems after that one.
And of course the one thing I despise...comes with only one mag...Stop it. Any gun manufactures in charge of sales and marketing reading this...Stop it.
Final thoughts:
For the price of the gun (about $300) this is a GREAT little pocket gun. Carries just as good as the old one but shoots WAY better, even with hot Underwood Extreme Penetrators (my carry round of choice for this gun). I would recommended the gun in a heart beat with just a couple bits of warning:
If you can, shoot one first. While I liked it, my sister that shot it did not. Recoil was a bit much for her.
Buy a different holster. I threw away the one it came with and bought a Vedder Pocket locker and haven't looked back. The other factory holster is probably the cause of some of the rust as well. The magazine hasn't come out again either.
Buy some more mags when you find them. The gun is still a bit new so they are not quite everywhere yet. I had to order 2 off of Cheaper than Dirt. Frankly I wish Ruger would keep the el cheapo pocket holster they give you and give us an extra magazine instead. 3 is best, 2 is acceptable, 1 is not ok...ever.
