Howa Mini Action 223
« on: January 15, 2017, 09:57:13 PM »
Got it out today and got a 5/8 inch group out of it at a hundred w/Sierra 1360s loaded over TAC.  Got an inch out of ammo loaded for my AR and not taking into account the distance to lands on this rifle.

So it shoots.  It has issues, like the really prominent mag release that I took my Fordam grinder to and "fixed."

I loaded up some Sierra 1365s over TAC just for it and maybe tomorrow will allow me the luxury of  seeing if my three and a half bucks were really spent.

cool! Always had good luck with getting Howas to shoot. Sound like potential for a squirrel rifle👍

It's shooting ten shot groups first time out under an inch w/a 3.5-10 Vortex scope with pretty coarse crosshairs.

Not bad

The stock is hollow and that makes the balance point fall right in front of the magazine so it caries just fine with 22 inch #2 barrel like I have.  The heavy barrel version is probably GTG in that regard too.  The 20" lightweight barrel will probably not though.  Once I took the Fordam to the mag release inadvertent mag drops are not much of a worry now.  In online reviews magazine feed was an issue, I couldn't get it to feed poorly no matter how hard I tried, and I tried and tried.

It was cold today at the range and I was shooting ten shot groups, so I am pretty happy with it so far.  I spoke with the importer last week and they are going to be meeting with Howa folks at the SHOT Show to discuss a redesigned trigger guard assy that will shroud the magazine release.
