Lady scatter guns, specifically over/unders
« on: April 01, 2017, 08:28:56 AM »
My wife is wanting to move to a nice over/under 20 gauge. Doing research there isn't an awful amount of information. Right now we are thinking Browning Micro Midas Satin Hunter. What other options are there for smaller framed shooters? We don't want junk but also don't want to break the bank. Let's say a budget of 1500.00 and nice used guns are an option too. What are your thoughts?

Look at the Caesar Guerini "Syren"  It is designed for women.  Many of my clients shoot them.

Micro Midas is a pretty good gun for the price.  The other gun in that price you might want to take a look at is the Franchi.  Fit and finish might be a little better on the Browning, but I have found the Franchi hard to beat for value to performance.  Although for just a little more you could probably find a used Silver Pigeon.  I find the Beretta fits women very well.

One thing to think about is that the double guns punish light framed shooters quite a bit more than a semi-auto.  For half the price you can find a Beretta or Franchi semi your lady will handle great!  My wife loved the look and feel of the Silver Pigeon, but actually shot the Franchi semi so much better.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

The Syren appears to be a fair amount beyond our budget, even used. It does look like a great option for those that can afford it.

We are all set in semi auto department but I hear what you are saying.

The ladies I shoot with and know most all shoot Beretta's. Most are shoot AL391 auto's but the smaller framed lady I shoot with all the time uses a Silver Pidgeon O/U. It all has to do with fit. Even I have problems with some guns, Benelli's kick the crap out of me, Remington's wrist to small for me and my hand and wrist hurt after 100 rounds.

With ladies, one thing to be aware of is the stock's length of pull. If your wife is short (like mine at 5'3"); a Youth Model shotgun maybe a good fit. Otherwise, the normal stock sizes will be awkward and cause an unpleasant recoil experience. My wife shoots a Beretta 20 Ga. Youth Model semi-auto, but many other choices are available in semi-auto, pump and even, I believe a few O/U's.

You could also buy a O/U with say 26" barrels and have the stock shortened and fitted to your wife by a gunsmith.

For that budget look at a browning Citori CX micro.  Son has one it is a great gun for all games (skeet chokes are not included) shoots 60/40.  He is using it for ATA trap he has over 4500 down the tube and no issues.  He even took a couple of pheasants with it this year.  3" chambers and 3 chokes for $1499-1599 depending on the shop
