Injection Pole for Skunks
« on: January 18, 2017, 04:16:39 PM »
I can't remember, is using an injection pole with Acetone for putting skunks down, legal here in WA?

They suggest AVMA guidelines on euthanasia but no specific rules that say "you must put animals down in this way" yet exist to my knowledge.

AVMA guidelines are:

• An injection of sodium pentobarbital or other pharmaceutical.
• Carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (CO2) supplied to a chamber from a compressed gas cylinder (small and medium sized animals).
• A gun shot to the head (small and medium sized animals. (Check local firearm ordinances).
• Stunning, followed by decapitation (amphibians, reptiles, and birds only).
• Cervical dislocation by stretching the animal so the neck is hyper-extended to separate the first vertebrae from the skull (birds, rabbits, and small rodents only).

MEK is my preferred chemical for skunks. it is right beside the acetone in the hardware store.

Thanks, I'll try it.  I used Acetone in VA and it was pretty quick, as long as I got it in the lungs!

I think they work great as well.

My poles are ususally 4 ft in length and I use skunk injection administration. Since I am based in canada, dunno much about the rules . Try for expert guidance from some wildllife removal services like Hawkeye ( http://www.hawkeye.ca/pest-wildlife-animals )  about the ideal chemical proportion.

I use a 12 foot expandable pole.  Most times if I get them in the lungs they are stone dead in 15-20 seconds.  That is with 10-12 cc of Acetone.

I love lot's of experience using it to touch up airplane parts for a company I used to work for. Makes your whole hand go cold instantly (or whatever part of your body touches it.) HIGHLY flammable stuff. Gives off fumes which will give you a head ache. I imagine it can't be good for you.
