Tucannon River Area
« on: February 07, 2017, 09:56:43 AM »
Headed over to the upper Tucannon River area for work. Most of my work will be in the evening. Will have lots of down time during the morning and day. I know there are lots of farm land in that valley. Wondering if anyone has any tips on Coyote or CaT hunting in that area.

I am just now getting into the predator hunting. Have a new call showing up in a few days. Figured I would bring it with me and test it out. Lots of public land in the upper portion of that valley, which is where I will be working (above Wooten wildlife area). Might just drive up to national Forest in morning and setup call.

Thanks for any tips!

I haven't been predator hunting over there so don't have much to share in that area.

However I can share general info.

It's been in the 40's around here during the day.  A lot of the snow here is melting or gone at 2500ft and lower (what I see day to day).  Not sure how high the melt has gone.  Gravel and dirt roads will be very soft and muddy during the day but harden up with the freeze.  So early morning travel will be ok.  Supposed to rain this week making it even more muddy.  Part of the Wooten stuff is in the valley and there are some houses around so you'll need to remember that if you set up down there.  I think there's some FFTH properties above and along the river too.

There's a good portion of that country along the river that is closed access during the winter months. I think it ends up being further north from Camp Wooten but on that same side of the river. Also keep in mind there are a couple places to cross the river here and there but in order to hunt any viable chunk of land, you'll pretty much have to be on the other side of the river.  It stays pretty close to the road the length of the road.

The wind farms down there should be a good spot if you get an access pass, the KOA has them.
