Double Barreled .410
« on: January 22, 2017, 01:46:23 PM »
The recent passing away of my daughter left me with her and her husbands belongings. Husband passed away seven years ago.

Among these was a double barrel .410 shotgun. My very limited research on this gun tells me it is very old. The serial number on the gun shows that it was made in 1939. Other markings on the receiver show that it was made by "Hunter Arms Co" in Fulton NY. It also is engraved with
"Hunter Special".

The gun is in superb condition with a few exceptions. The forearm has a cracked off piece on top of it. The grip cap is cracked and missing a piece.
The recoil pad is melted and very hard. Inside both barrels, there is no indication it has ever been fired.

According to some old Gun Digests that I have, Hunter Arms went out of business
in 1948.

Anyone having any knowledge about this gun or the Hunter Arms Co, I would appreciate your comments or recommendations.

My biggest question is "should I leave the gun in its present condition or have it repaired?

Here is a picture of it.

Looks like a sweet little shooter.  I'd replace the recoil pad and put it to work.

hey hunting fool,
sorry for your losses.
I would just have a gunsmith clean it up, do any minor work and use it. if you send the serial number it would help dating it. there are people that look specifically for 410.
good luck, jackson
