River otter
« on: January 23, 2017, 06:32:18 PM »
Just talked to the local native trapper here, he's gonna help out with a vagrant problem on our dock.  Showed him this vid and asked if it was gonna be worth his time - he said "Oh yeah, this should make a decent payday."

Pretty easy to find them down here this time of year too.  Do they commonly have five in a litter?  Have never seen more than three.  They seem to enjoy whatever they are doing.
Thanks

I've watched it several times.  It looks like three adults and three young ones.
Did you see them going over to the corner and urinating there.  I think they are marking their territory.
Plus with them rolling around in the snow, there are cleaning their fur.
Pretty cool video.  Two thumbs up

Thanks, thought you all would enjoy it.  Trapper I showed the vid to said he thought two female adults, one young from last year and three from this year.   :dunno:

Yah, I've hosed that corner off for months now.  The guy moored next to me finally had enough and called up his trapper friend.   Going to do a conibear water set right between my neighbor's boat and the poop spot.  If he sets it up before I leave I'll try and get a pic of it.

Al

Eliason.  There's a good-sized creek that flows in right under TrueValue.

That is what I think too.  I think the pair held over one from last years litter.  It will be a female.
Raccoons will do the same thing and its always a female.  The males take off late fall / winter.
